The Santa Fe Youth Symphony Association, celebrated Mother's Day with an all orchestra ensemble concert. Students from Intermezzo String Orchestra, Youth Philharmonia, and the Youth Symphony Orchestra all performed for an audience of over 400 at the St. Francis Auditorium.
Highlights included:
- An inspiring collaboration between Youth Philharmonia and the Youth Symphony Orchestra. The two groups (composed of over 70 students) combined to perform a piece from Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows (Part 2).
- A Premier Performance of "Birdsong from Inside the Egg", a piece composed by Mohit Dubey, a seventeen-year-old student. Mohit, violinist in the YSO, also conducted the piece as it was performed by Youth Philharmonia.
- Flute player Marlene Krapfl shining as she performed Mozart’s Flute Concerto in D Major.
- The YSO Brass Ensemble echoing throughout St. Francis Auditorium as they played Gabrieli’s Canzona per Sonare No. 2.
- A performance of Farandole from Bizet’s L’Arlesienne Suite No. 2; to dub the rendition ‘exhilarating’ would be an understatement.
