2020-2021 SFYSA season overview
We’ve designed a program and curriculum for this season that is online throughout the season, and will include in-person rehearsals whenever possible. Whether we are on a pandemic high-alert or meeting in groups, all students will receive significant music education and coaching through online music education classes, the Inspired by Excellence masterclass series, and ensemble meetings.
When the Governor issues a statewide health order closing schools, SFYSA will not meet in groups larger than 5. When school opening is left up to districts around the state, we will evaluate case numbers, health instructions, and transition to in-person rehearsals that will not number greater than 20 students. We will follow all COVID safety measures and require that our students do as well.

Auditions
All new students need to audition for placement, as well as those who wish to move up. Elementary Strings (All online, no in-person)
This year, in order to avoid physical contact, we will be replacing our Level 1 strings classes with General Music Education, games and string readiness, which can be enjoyed by new and returning students. Recognizing how difficult it is for young children to remember and follow social distancing and mask wearing guidelines consistently, Level 2 strings classes will also be offered in an online format to accommodate as many learners as possible. Orchestras
All four of our orchestras will meet online this year and in person whenever possible. Con Vivo Chamber Music
We welcome our new Con Vivo program director, Kevin Darrow. This season our chamber music program will continue to have small ensembles from 3-5 students and is the group of students most likely to be able to meet regularly in-person. |
Registration
Registration is entirely online this year. Tuition & Financial Aid Info
The Santa Fe Youth Symphony Association believes that finances should not prevent any motivated, qualified student from participating. As such, SFYSA provides tuition assistance through a sliding scale. During the registration process, please be sure to click the box which asks if you would like to apply for financial aid and is part of every registration form. Complete the process as you register. All application information is kept 100% confidential. Please make your registration fee payment, and your first tuition payment when you register. Jazz and Mariachi We have temporarily suspended our Mariachi and Jazz ensembles for the coming year. There will be a jazz and mariachi track included in our online music education workshops throughout the season. Please contact us to see how best you can participate with us and stay engaged during this season. We intend to come back bigger and stronger in 2021-2022! Online Music Education
We are offering extensive online music education this year to supplement all ensemble meetings. All registered students will have access to our entire set of offerings. These meetings will happen every Tuesday evening, two classes an evening. Links will be embedded in the calendar once the season begins. Online WebPass Only
We are offering our Jazz and Mariachi students, and any student who would like to participate only online and not be part of an ensemble. This pass will include access to all Music Education classes and the series of 8-10 masterclasses this year. That is 24 weeks of 2 classes each week, plus access to all of our masterclasses in the Inspired by Excellence series. There will also be a monthly check-in with this group of students, but you will not be part of an ensemble. You may make this selection on the online registration form. |
