This season our focus was on building the skill sets our musicians needed to progress, and reviewing the skills we'd covered thus far. When we talked about which pieces we'd chosen, we discovered an underlying theme that involved a a sense of place and travel... a Journey (Caminos).
In doing this, we are stretching the sound, tone, mood, rhythms, and tonalities that our students are accustomed to playing. It has provided a richer experience, and an opportunity for depth. We also have several collaborations between ensembles which allows one group to venture into the world of another's. It provides the opportunity for side-by-side playing with more varying levels of performers, new styles they may be unfamiliar with, and a chance to make new friends.
We look forward to sharing these various Caminos with you!
