NEW STUDENT AND ADVANCING STUDENT AUDITIONS
Deadline: January 15
This season's Winter auditions will be conducted by video submission. Each student will make one video recording their full audition, meeting our audition requirements. Please read our FAQ and view the video below before recording your video. Then, return here, click the UPLOAD AUDITION button, pay the $10 audition fee, fill out the online form and upload the video by January 15, 2021. Everything you need to know is below with links to get you where you need to go. Audition results will be posted by 5pm on January 18th.
**Students returning to the same ensemble they were in last year do not need to audition.

Do I make a video for each part of the audition, or just one video for the whole audition?
Submit only one video with yourself playing your audition from beginning to end.
If I’m new to SFYSA do I need to audition?
Yes. We look forward to hearing you play!
If I was in SFYSA last year, and I’m returning to my same ensemble, do I need to audition?
No. Only students new to SFYSA and students wishing to change ensembles need to audition.
Should I use a metronome in my recording?
No. Use them for practice, but not the recording.
Are marked tempos required?
They are not. Aim to get as close as possible, but remember that accuracy is more important than tempo.
Is there sight reading for this audition?
No sight reading for these online auditions.

- SFYSA reserves the right to not place a student in any ensemble.
Eligibility
To be eligible to audition, students must:
Santa Fe and Los Alamos Public Schools students: please copy and paste this link [https://airtable.com/shrnGJxIQ3DrRY8Q5] for a School Enrollment Verification Form, and send it to your school's orchestra or band director for completion. Please contact us if the pandemic creates concerns for you regarding this requirement. Please note that all students who wish to audition for All-State must be enrolled in a school music ensemble.
- Be taking weekly private lessons on their Orchestra instrument
- Be enrolled in the corresponding ensemble at their school, if such an ensemble exists.

PLACEMENT CRITERIA
The outcome of a student's audition is based on the quality of their rhythm, tempo choice, intonation, pitch accuracy, tone, expressive elements, technique, and scale fluency.
Factors that determine a student’s placement include the outcome of the audition, the ensemble in which the student is currently enrolled (if applicable), and the student’s age.
