According to family legend, Andrea sang before she could talk. She started playing the piano at four years old, played the clarinet in band and orchestra in middle school and high school, and has been a choral singer and soloist for decades. Directly before becoming the Executive Director of SFYSA in 2016, Andrea worked for Performance Santa Fe (PSF) as the Production and Operations Manager, as well as the Education Coordinator. At PSF she worked with world-renowned artists in music, dance and theater, and administered education programs in collaboration with the Santa Fe Public Schools and local artists. She discovered a natural fit for her creativity, leadership, and management skills in the context of the performing arts. While it was amazing and exciting to work with great performing artists of our time, it was particularly inspiring for Andrea to work with young people experiencing excellence and inspiration through music.
Andrea knows the value of music in her own life and understands the numerous benefits that come from youth participation in the arts. She believes the Santa Fe Youth Symphony Association is vital to the health and education of Santa Fe children and to a strong and inclusive community. She spearheaded the introduction of SFYSA's annual showcase, Music for Everyone presented at the Lensic theater, in order to share the performances of our talented youth and the range of our programming with the larger community. She regularly participates in the Santa Fe Community Foundation’s Executive Director Learning Circle, completed their Emerging Social Sector Leaders Program, and participates in national conferences for Equity in the Arts. In 2018, she and SFYSA Marketing Manager, Mari Angulo, won a first place NM Women's Press Award for their monthly SFYSA newsletter "Espressivo Tutti."
A member of the Santa Fe community since 1992, Andrea graduated cum laude in Language and International Trade from Eastern Michigan University, and has worked as an administrator and facilitator in experiential education, as well as a practitioner and educator in the health and wellness field. In Santa Fe, she enjoys the great New Mexico outdoors, the continuing adventure of curiosity and learning, parenting her daughter, singing in the Sangre de Cristo Chorale, and hiking with their wonderful dog.
